Grants 🎉 CA21141 Grant Call for Short-Term Scientific Missions 2026 Published! 🚀

We are thrilled to announce the publication of the CA21141 Grant Call for Short-Term Scientific Missions (STSMs) for the year 206. This is a fantastic opportunity for researchers and professionals to engage in collaborative projects, exchange knowledge, and contribute to the advancement of our field.

For more information, eligibility criteria, and application guidelines, please visit this link.

WHAT ARE STSMs?
STSMs are research visits that support individual mobility and strengthen collaboration between institutions. They allow researchers to visit a host institution in another COST country to carry out research, learn new methods, access specific resources, and contribute to the goals of the Action. A clear connection to the goals of the action is a necessary condition for an STSM application. Please read the Annotated Rules for COST Actions and specifically Annex 2 ‘Networking Activities organised through a Grant Awarding Process’
The STSM is carried out as a collaboration with colleagues from an institution other than their home institution. The location of the host institution must be in a different country than the country of affiliation of the applicant. The STSM outcomes will be published on the GRADE website https://costgrade.eu/
An STSM Grant provides a fixed contribution towards the overall travel, accommodation, and meal expenses of the grantee. The maximum amount of an STSM Grant is 4,000 EUR.

WHO CAN APPLY?
STSMs are open to researchers and innovators affiliated with a legal entity (e.g. university, research centre, registered charity or SME) in a COST Member or Cooperating Country. We especially welcome applications from PhD students, early-career researchers, young researchers and innovators (under the age of 40) and researchers from Inclusiveness Target Countries (ITCs).

WHAT IS COVERED?
The grant should be viewed as a contribution to the overall costs of the visit. Regardless of actual travel dates, subsistence lump sums (accommodation, meals) are limited to the number of visiting days plus two travel days.

• Travel expenses from home to visiting location and back (bus, coach, train 2nd class, and plane economy).
• Visa fees for the visiting country, including expenses to obtain the visa.
• Costs related to personal security, health, taxation, social security, and pension matters are not covered.

SELECTION CRITERIA
STSM proposals will be evaluated based on the relevance to the Action’s objectives and deliverables. The STSM has to contribute towards the specific objectives of a selected Working Group (WG), as described in the Action’s Memorandum of Understanding. The STSM application will be evaluated by members of GRADE’s core group including the grant awarding committee, Dr Carlos Cunha (cunhacdowling@yahoo.com) and Alexandra Tatar (alexandra.tatar@yahoo.com).

Deliverables for the fourth grant period focus on the following areas:

• Working Group 1: Further development of the GRADE Zotero Library on Creative Computing Cultures, including the creation of a future-proof open license mirror of this repository (feeds into WG3 focus).
• Working Group 2: Preparation and Development of hybrid exhibition on Media Migration AND the role of European copyright homogenisation on creative computing.
• Working Group 3: Creation of the Virtual Library listing creative computing related materials stored in open access and digital repositories throughout Europe

DURATION
The STSMs involve a short research visit of several days and up to one month. The STSM period can be from March to August. A report is to be submitted at the latest within 30 days of the end of the grant. For STSMs at the end of August, grantees should submit the reports by 11 September at the latest.
There are no hard deadlines for STSM applications, but please consider the above timeframes when applying and completing the STSM.

HOW TO APPLY?
The applicant needs to encode an STSM application by logging into e-COST (https://e-services.cost.eu/) and clicking on the STSM application tab. Prior to submitting the application, it is recommended to contact the leadership of the relevant WG in order to seek preliminary feedback. It is also necessary to obtain a letter of invitation from the host institution before applying. This letter needs to be on signed headed paper from the host institution.
The application should contain the following documents:
• Application form (see COST template (https://www.cost.eu/STSM_GrantApplication)
• Letter of invitation from the host institution (the letter should state the start and end date of the STSM, as well as the pursued objectives; we can provide a template upon request)
