Veronika Hanáková goes to SWPS University, April 2024

GRADE member Veronika Hanáková went on a Short-Term Scientific Mission (STSM) to SWPS University in Poland. During her visit significant progress was made in advancing digital heritage preservation efforts. The primary focus was on comprehensively mapping current preservation practices in the field, resulting in a detailed overview that highlights successful strategies and identifies challenges. This mapping process provided valuable insights into trends, prevalent methodologies, and gaps within existing preservation efforts, offering a clearer understanding of how to enhance digital heritage preservation.

Key Achievements:

Mapping Digital Heritage Preservation Practices: The mission analyzed various policies, practices, and approaches within digital heritage preservation, categorizing data to illustrate the landscape of preservation strategies. This work is essential for identifying where current efforts fall short and how they can be improved.

Development of a Case Study: A case study was developed based on an existing framework from Working Group 3 (WG3). The analysis examined the preservation methods used by a heritage institution, assessing their effectiveness and implications. This case study also tested the functionality of the WG3 framework in real-world applications.

Contribution to White Paper 3: A significant part of the mission was drafting and developing segments for White Paper 3, focusing on creative computing heritage preservation. Active participation in WG3’s research and discussions refined the research efforts, aligning them with the objectives of the White Paper. The contributions during the STSM are recognized, with authorship in the final White Paper, a testament to the valuable research conducted.

Planned Follow-Up Activities:
Future activities include continued collaboration with WG3 to refine and expand on the gaps identified in digital heritage preservation. The case studies will be further developed, and contributions to subsequent drafts of White Paper 3 are planned. Ongoing discussions will focus on aligning research efforts with emerging trends and challenges in the field.
